The San Bernardino County Museum
ByThe kids and I recently headed out to the San Bernardino Museum in the city of Redlands where we met up with Megan from Sunshine Wonderland for a day full cultural and natural history and tons o’ fun. Thankfully, Megan was genius enough to bring along a camera, because silly me totally forgot mine. So all attached photos are courtesy of Megan. Thanks Megan!
The San Bernardino Museum is conveniently located right off Interstate 10 and is situated amongst fragrant orange groves. The museum was founded in 1952 where it moved around a bit and landed in the city of Redlands in 1974. It is currently undergoing massive renovations and from the looks of the work it appears the end result is going to be fantastic.
What is really neat and unique about this museum is that they have a different event every couple of days. We planned to visit the museum on “All aboard Train Days” where train enthusiasts and collectors alike displayed their fancy and super detailed model trains for us all to enjoy. There were train rides and fun games for the kids to play too. Check back at the event page often to see when the next train days event will be, you won’t want to miss the next one.
I have to say, my favorite museum exhibit was the John Belcher North American Mammal Hall. I just cannot pass up looking at dead-stuft-stuff. Neither can my kids either, because my son yelled “yeah lets go see the dead-stuft-stuff!!” over and over again.
Every Tuesday through Friday from 10am to 1pm and every Saturday and Sunday from 1pm to 4pm the San Bernardino Museum hosts an “Exploration Station” inside the live animal and nature gallery where you can touch and see an exotic animal up close and personal. Our boys got to pet a skink! I touched it too-it felt like an ear of corn.
If you’re looking for something fun and affordable to do with the whole family, I highly suggest a visit to the San Bernardino Museum. You can log on here for more information.
I’m throwing in these extra pictures just because our kids are so darn cute:
