Las Posadas at The Autry

If you have ever wanted to attend a Posada, you don’t want to miss Las Posadas at the Autry in Griffith Park. Las Posadas is a nine-day celebration with origins in Spain and now celebrated mostly in Mexico. The first day of the posadas is usually on December 16 and they usually end on Noche Buena(Christmas Eve).

The Autry celebrates this Mexican tradition in which children portray Mary and Joseph on their journey seeking shelter prior to the birth of baby Jesus. A musical procession reenacting this journey will wind through the museum with stops at gallery entrances that serve as the “inns.”  Following the final stop in the museum lobby, guests will proceed outdoors to the plaza for La Pastorela, a performance by Grandeza Mexicana and Harmonies Girls Choir that depicts—through music, humor, and dance—the pilgrimage of the shepherds who travel to Bethlehem to see baby Jesus.

I’ve attended a few posadas as a child and hope that this year, I can attend one with my kiddos. It is such an unique experience and a great way to expose the kiddos to different traditions and culture.

Las Posadas is included in the price of admission.
