Daytripping Dad, Mike, recently had the chance to sit down with some of the cast members and the director to discuss this exciting new film. Mike asked Logan Lerman, Percy Jackson himself, about how the character has grown and evolved since the first film. Logan responded, saying “Well, at the end of the first one, it kind of ended on that note that he’s the hero. He’s the guy who saved the day and everything was great. And at the beginning of this one, we kind of find him at a place where he’s not the hero anymore. He’s a little insecure, but more accepting. Maybe it was luck. Maybe it was a number of things. But, I’m not really the guy they thought I was going to be.”

Logan continued describing other things that have changed for the character.  “In the mixture of all these things in this journey, it’s a big journey of discovering [Percy’s] confidence again and it really connects to the meaning of the story, which is the value of family and friends and the loyalty between that group of people, which just makes everybody family. So, that kind of supports him, his friendships and everything into stepping up to the plate and being the hero again. And it’s not him. It’s everybody.”

The film is in 3D and is chalk full of action and fight sequences. Younger children might find some of the scenes a bit frightening, which is why the movie is rated PG. If your kids are like mine, they love action films and fights of good versus evil, they will likely really enjoy the film.  If your children (or even you!) enjoy the book series, you’ll be very happy with how close the movie aligns with the novels.  Check out the preview of the movie, below:

Be on the look out for footage in the movie that was shot at Six Flags New Orleans, which was permanently closed following Hurricane Katrina. Today, Six Flags sits looking much the way it did after the hurricane flooding subsided.  The creative force behind Sea of Monsters brought it back to life, if only for a few nights, to become an important backdrop to the new movie.
