Arroz con Leche

Thanksgiving is right around the corner. My sisters and I got together a few days ago to plan our Thanksgiving feast. We always make traditional Mexican dishes along with the traditional American turkey fare. We make tamales, bring pastel de tres leches, and I always make a batch of Arroz con Leche (rice with milk). It is the ultimate comfort food for me. My abuelita(grandmother) used to make it on winter nights and making some takes me back to my childhood.

I put a very sweet spin on Arroz con Leche. It is very easy to make and most of the ingredients are already in your pantry. For this recipe you will need:

  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 cup of rice
  • 2 cups of water
  • 3 cups of milk
  • 1 cup of sweet condensed milk
  • cinnamon

Directions:

Add water and rice to a saucepan. Cook rice on low setting. Once rice is softened, add milk, sugar and sweet condensed milk. Continue cooking on low until rice is soft and ready to eat. Top with cinnamon. This coupon for $1 off two gallons of milk, will make it even better! Enjoy!!!

Toma-Leche

Did you watch Premios Lo Nuestro? Last night was a great show, I caught the first part of it and was so excited to see the recognition Jenni Rivera received. She  won album of the year and she also was the recipient of a very moving tribute. There were numerous winners including, Alejandro Sanz, Mana and many more. There were also many great artists that did not win, however, if looking at the glass half full, they are winners just by being nominated and recognized for their music. I know many had dreams of getting nominated and they did just that.

Since we are on the subject of dreams, I know that great dreams start with a good night of sleep. Drinking a delish glass of milk before bed may do just that. I like my milk a little warm, with a spoonful of sugar, and right before bed. I think it helps me sleep like a baby and have the best dreams.

Toma Leche Positive Song Award! #Positivismo

securedownload-145

I love a good award show. You name it and I love watching it, from the Tony’s to the Emmy’s, I watch them all. I also love watching the Spanish award shows and Premios Lo Nuestro, is a great one to watch. This very special award show, recognizes artists in the Latino community that are making a difference. I will be rooting for my personal favorite, Jenni Rivera. I would give the the “Toma Leche Positive Song Award” to her  song, “A Cambio de Que” for sure! She died tragically in December, but was the living embodiment of being positive.

Award shows are always nerve wracking. I get nervous for the nominees! I hope they all can relax the night before and I would definitely reommend drinking a little milk the night before, to make sure they get that good night’s rest and be full of positive energy the next day!

I will be on pins and needles! Don’t forget to watch Premios Lo Nuestro on February 21st at 7 pm ET/4 pm PT and follow the conversation on Twitter via #Positivismo and #PremioLoNuestro hashtags before and after the event.
