I am in the middle of completing my Masters Degree in Education and I am absolutely loving it! I actually look forward to my classes and opening up my books. One of the things we are currently covering in our program, is the importance of the first five years or developmental years. It is a critical time of life because most of the cognitive or brain development takes place during this time. Did you know that 90 percent of brain development takes place by the time a child is five years old? It sure does! It is extremely important that a child receive the highest quality of care during this important time.

It is a critical time frame and one where we need to be exposing children to enriching activities and trying to make learning experiences with our children, as often as we can.  If you are a stay at home parent, you probably make sure that your kiddos are being exposed to enriching activities, but what if you aren’t staying home and your kiddo has to head to daycare/child care?

First5LA  has five steps to help you choose quality child care.

  1. Assess Needs and Research Options
  2. Check Credentials, License and Caregiver Training
  3. Get to know your child care provider: Make sure to visit!
  4. Make a commitment
  5. Involvement: Make sure to stay involved!
