#DestapaSuFuturo and the Hispanic Scholarship Fund

I grew up in East Los Angeles. I attended what many would probably not call the best ranking elementary school, City Terrace Elementary, but I never would have known it. The most wonderful teachers that loved their job, the kids and made our education their top priority abounded at the school.  The teachers encouraged us and always reminded us that our future was bright and we could achieve anything we set our minds to.

Many of our teachers were Latinas and came from the same neighborhoods in East Los Angeles. They understood our culture and always reminded us to be proud of our beautiful heritage. My hope is that my own children will have similar experiences and be surrounded by inspiring teachers.

Those amazing teachers and my heritage have inspired me to pursue a career in education. I’m currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Digital Education and a specialist credential in special education. I think that my decision to pursue a career in education can be credited to my amazing teachers and my cultura.  I am so thankful to be the first member in my familia to graduate from college and I can’t wait to give back to my community. There is a need for Autism specialist and I hope to be able to help in a small way to meet this need.

Coca-Cola has had an extraordinary relationship with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund for more than 30 years and are committed to helping them meet their goal of having a college degree in every Latino household by the year 2025.  Along with Hispanic Scholarship Fund, Coca-Cola wants to motivate people to get involved and help make a difference.

From now through October 31st, students can apply for a scholarship at www.hsf.net/cocacola by answering three thought-provoking essay questions. Students must reflect on how their heritage affects their career goals, the importance of education in their lives and their community service experiences.

Sea Scare at the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium

There are so many Halloween events that are taking place during the next few days. I hope I can squeeze all of them in.

One of my favorite Halloween events takes place at the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium on Saturday, October 27th from 6pm to 9pm. Sea Scare is a super fun Halloween event that is fun for the entire family. The Aquarium transforms itself into an underwater world of chills and thrills!

Come in costume and trick or treat through one of six stations or head over to the nursery for a very special treasure hunt. There will be treats, animal demonstrations, a live magic show, a costume contest, or dance your heart away! You can also craft to your heart’s content, with a variety of crafts that are kiddo approved.

For a fun and frugal night, make sure to check out Sea Scare. Admission is $5 for adults and $1 for kiddos. Can’t beat that!

Cirque Du Soleil Dralion

I think if you’ve read this site for some time now, you know that I’m a super fan of Cirque Du Soleil Shows. I’ve watched over half a dozen show and I’m amazed by each and every one.

Cirque Du Soleil’s show Dralion will be at the Long Beach Arena from November 1st to the 4th. The show features the 3,000 year old tradition of Chinese acrobatics. The show is by inspired by Eastern Culture and blends together the East and the West. It sounds absolutely amazing and I can’t wait to catch this show. My husband and I are debating whether our almost 6 year old son is ready for the show. We’re leaning towards yes and hope to snag some tickets soon.

To learn more about the show or to purchase tickets at a 25 percent discount head here.

The show is also playing in Ontario from October 24th to the 28th and San Diego from November 15th to the 18th.
