Why I love My San Diego Zoo/Safari Park Membership

Africa Tram Safari

Last Saturday we decided to head over to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park with some friends. We have a Diamond club Membership to the zoo and love to use it whenever we have the opportunity. One of the benefits of having a Diamond club Membership is getting 4 Free Guest passes to either The San Diego Zoo or  San Diego Zoo Safari Park. We decided to take our friends The Cordero’s for a day at the park.

San Diego Zoo Safari Park

It was a perfect day at the park and it seemed like we had the park to ourselves. I love heading to either park this time of year because the weather is perfect and the crowds are far away in another season called summer. It really felt like we had the park to ourselves.

The new Bat House Exhibit

One of the benefits of having a membership is being able to visit any time you would like. There are no black out dates and you could visit both parks if you would like.

Flamingos in the morning

You can also enjoy discounts throughout the park and free parking at The Safari Park with Diamond level status and above. The best part is that your membership is completely tax deductible. With Tax Season right around the corner, it definitely helps to have another deduction handy.

The Pride of the Safari Park

A membership to the San Diezo Zoo and Safari park would make a great Christmas gift. If you are still looking for a gift for that special family, this would definitely be a great choice.

San Diego Zoo and San Diego Zoo Safari Park Kids are Free Days

We love the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park and although this deal is still a month away, I wanted to share this to make sure you take advantage and plan some fun daytrips to both parks.

Each year, from October 1–31, in honor of the  Zoo’s founding, kiddos  ages 3–11 are admitted free to the Zoo and Safari Park when accompanied by an adult. This deal applies if you are bringing in one kiddo or ten! It’s a great deal for  families. So if you have been planning to head to one or both parks, make sure to take advantage of this great deal.  October is one of my favorite months, the weather is perfect and allows for a great day at both parks. I also love that there are less tourists this time of year and you aren’t pushing or shoving you way through this summer.

A visit to Reuben H Fleet Science Center

Happy Sunday everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend. It’s hard to believe that summer is half way over. It makes me a little sad because I really do enjoy this time of year. If you are looking for some fun adventures in San Diego, here is a great place to visit in Balboa Park. Our San Diego contributor, Maribel, had the opportunity to visit two weeks ago and shares all about her experience with her son.

Have you been to the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center in Balboa Park lately? There are two fun new exhibits that to learn from! My 18 month old son and I had the opportunity to visit, explore and learn from these exhibits. As soon as we entered the exhibit hall we found ourselves being welcomed by Geometry Playground, now I have been to many playgrounds… but nothing like this one. My son was immediately drawn to the large “play structure” in the center of it all.  The most prominent of e shapes was the triangle and although it may seem like a “Stack of Stars” he found it very fascinating. He contemplated it for about 10 minutes -which for toddlers  is a very long time!  The exhibit had kids going in or coming out from every possible direction.

Do you remember the “Spirograph” when you were younger? I remember getting one for Christmas and using up a whole notebook just drawing with it and all the colored pens I could get my hands on! The Geometry Playground they has a similar one that makes drawings large enough to be framed and hung on the wall! It brought back fun memories.

Another excellent activity was the “Build a Room”. It gives you a perspective of how Architects and Engineers feel when visualizing and designing a house.
Isn’t it amazing how many shapes we see on a daily basis without noticing them? We have a DVD about shapes and colors, but this exhibit took it to another level… Even for me, it was as if I was inside each shape!

After what seemed like a couple of minutes( but in reality more like 2 hours) we made our way upstairs to the Identity Exhibit. This exhibit explores the question who are you? It explores the question in various aspects and makes YOU  the star. The How do you identify yourself exhibit is especially interesting. The importance here is WHO do you choose to be. The exhibit has several examples of identities  such as ethnicity, jobs, culture, etc.

When planning your visit to the Ruben H. Science Center keep in mind the following:

Plan to be at the Science Center for a few hours(time seems to fly by! ).
The best time to visit is in the afternoon, it is less crowded.
If you are taking your stroller, you are allowed to bring it in except on Tuesdays.

Hope you like these exhibits as much as we did!
