Irvine Park Railroad Easter Eggstravaganza and Giveaway

Irvine Park Railroad Easter Video from Irvine Park Railroad on Vimeo.

Can you believe Easter is right around the corner? I still can’t believe it. In our family we have a few Easter traditions and for the past couple of years heading over to the Irvine Park Railroad has become one of them. Last year the kiddos had a blast having their faces painted, looking for eggs and of course riding the train.

Irvine Park Railroad Easter Eggstravaganza will run from March 20th through April 3rd. You can ride the train, go on an Easter egghunt (make sure to bring a basket!), meet the Easter Bunny, take pictures and my son’s favorite- take a hay ride! We had a blast next year and I can’t wait to take them in two weeks.

It’s giveaway time! One lucky reader will win a family 10 pack of tickets to Irvine Park Railroad. All you have to do is tell me what your favorite Easter tradition is. I love reading your responses! You have until next Thursday the 18th to enter. Good luck!

Easter Dresses! I have so much fun going out and shop with mom to pick out the perfect spring attire – the white shoes, the handbag, the tights, the whole shi-bang.

  2. Kathleen Switzer says:

When I was a kid my mom would hide our entire Easter basket somewhere in the house. We would spend all morning searching for them. Now that my son is old enough to understand the concept of finding things that are hidden, I plan on starting the tradition with him. I can't wait!

  3. THE Disneyalnd Mom says:

Mine is like Stephanie's. My kids hide and rehide the eggs over and over. I end up finding halves of eggs in August. The other day my kids were fishing in my closet and found some of the eggs I found late in the year. I had to figure out a way to explain why I had them and told them I was going to leave them in a bag outside the front door for the Easter bunny to pick up. I know I live far, but I think a trip to Irving Park would be a really nice family outing.

  4. Maureen White says:

When I was a kid I would wake up on Easter morning and see the Easter Bunny footprints from our front door to our Easter baskets. When I grew up my Mother told me they would take our cat and put her claws in flour to make them. I followed this tradition with my kids and now with my Granddaughter. It's so fun to her my Granddaughter tell her friends about the footprints.
    Thanks, Maureen White

When I was little we would go to my grandparents country club early in the morning and wait for the easter bunny to arrive from the golf course in his special decorated golf cart! We would follow him to the tennis courts where there was an easter egg hunt. This year we are taking my son to his great grandparents for his first easter to do the very same thing!

  6. Lin says:

We've made it an Easter tradition to BBQ all day at the park. It's always something all of our family looks forward to.

  7. Kim says:

My favorite Easter tradition is hiding the Easter basket for my son in the craziest places! My past favs are in the washing machine and in the freezer!

For the last few years, we spend Easter at my sister-in-laws. My 3 year old loves to spend the night with his cousins. They doecorate eggs the night before. While they are all at church Easter morning, I get to hide the eggs. It's a blast and I'm really looking forward to going again this year!

  9. Amber says:

Mine is the normal Easter egg hunt. My kids are still pretty young. So my favorite part is when they find an egg they have to open it so see what's inside. And that's usually with most of the eggs. LOL

  10. Erin says:

My favorite tradition is the egg hunt! I loved that as a kid and now I love hiding the eggs and treasures for my daughter.

  11. Byran and Diana says:

On Easter Saturday my mom would hide our Easter baskets and I always enjoyed trying to find them. Then on Eater Sunday we would have a nice family dinner. Now that my boys are getting older I can't wait to hide there baskets.

A family tradition my husband had when he was little has been passed on to our kids. It's taking their Easter baskets and hiding them. Then you tie a string to the baskets which lead them all though out the house under and over things. When the kids get out of bed they see the end of the string tied to their door knobs and a web of string all throughout the rooms of the house. Each child has a different color sting and they follow their string to their hidden basket! It's so fun and the kids love it!

  13. Tamara says:

When I was little we would color the eggs the night before so they would be ready for the easter bunny to hide them. We would go first thing in the morning to find them. We always would color just one egg with all the colors. Who ever could find the egg that was colored with all the colors would win a special prize. We never did find the egg that year until we were clearing out the bushes in the front yard 3 years later and we found the missing egg. It wasn't very colorful then. lol =)

  16. Crissie says:

My favorite Easter tradition when I was little was dying eggs. I would tell my mom to buy a ton of them. One year she got the 5 dozen package from Price Club and my sister and I got to decorate all of them! Now that I am a mom, my favorite tradition is watching my daughter find the eggs and her basket. This year I will have a brand new 2 week old baby on Easter! Now THAT is a great Easter gift! ♥

My son is 2 and this is the first year we will be doing an Easter Egg Hunt. I don't have any of my own traditions so reading previous posts gave me so great ideas. Can't wait to start some of my own traditions.

  20. The Lindstedt Family says:

Our family loves it all! Dying eggs three times (at home, with grandma and at a friend's party), city egg hunts and the hunts on Easter morning! We're eggcited already!

  21. denkers says:

we love Irvine Park. A different kind of egg hunt would be really nice for my kids this year…especially ;the younger ones. Georgia

  22. J's Mom says:

my favorite as a kid was confetti filled eggs. My aunts and grandmother would carefully crack a whole in the egg, remove the contents and wash it out. then would fill with confetti and we would be able to paint them and crack them on someones head. Now its my turn to make those eggs for my daughter and my little cousins.

  23. 4cassiesmom says:

I love to hide my kids Easter baskets for them to find in the morning. The Easter bunny finds trickier places as the kids get older…but the all time favorite is finding your basket in the bathtub!

  24. The Stephens Family says:

My favorite thing is decorating the eggs and having the boys wake up to find where they all have gone.

  25. Lisa says:

When I was little I loved waking up in the morning on Easter to find a basket of treats waiting for me. I have a two year old now and I look forward to creating the same memories for him.

  26. Bryava says:

Lunch with the family, Easter ham, chocolate eggs, Easter egg hunts, and the next day, looking for the eggs we didn't find at the hunt!

  27. Angela says:

We dye real eggs, but hide plastic ones so we don't have to deal with finding one old rotten egg months later! Lol. We go to church in the morning and then hide plastic eggs all day over and over. And usually for most of the following week too! The dyed eggs are used to make deviled eggs and egg salad later. 🙂

  28. Hgascon says:

Our family tradition is simple and easy. With two HF autistic children, they have just started to understand easter and what this mean. Our tradition is letting them find the eggs over and over and over again. Then followed by a quite day with family. These are the days I realized how truly blessed I am to have two amazing kids.

  29. Anthony & Desirae says:

A tradition that my husband's family did was make Bunny nests out of blankets at night time. Then the bunny would leave them goodies in their nest. I didn't really understand this tradition because, birds have nests and not bunnies. So….after a little research a new tradition has started. We now make forts and leave our bunny nest inside our fort. Rabbits burrow into the ground and make somewhat of a nest. It's fun, and the kids love forts.

  30. suikalove says:

My daughter is 2 and son 5 months so we're just getting started with traditions of our own but I always love a big Easter meal at home with the family. I always enjoyed finding eggs hidden in strange places in our backyard and taking pictures with the Easter Bunny. This year we're dressing the kids in bunny outfits.

  31. MWilson says:

Easter Egg hunts are fierce competion at our house! We always have a few money eggs with one holding 5 dollars. Even our teenagers love looking for the money egg!

  32. Siobhan says:

for the past 5 easters we have had fun egg hunting with great grandparents. this year will be extra special for the family because we are hoping that our first and only baby girl (Annalise) will be coming home from a long stay in the NICU to finally me her two older brothers (ages 5 and 3). We have had special talks about Jesus and his ability to heal. We have talked how Jesus raised from the dead to show the world that death is not the end. this last lesson was very important when we weren't sure if she would live. the doctors expect her to be home in the next 2wks.

  33. Happy Family says:

here is Annalise's blog if you would like to take a look abelactivated.blogspot.com

this is a different gmial than from the above comment from Siobhan

  34. Jackie says:

(Palm) Sunday: Dine with "palm leaves" made out of construction paper as a reminder of the palms that greeted the Savior as he entered the city.

Monday: Do a nature walk as a family and pick out the following:
Branch: palms were waving as Christ entered the city
Piece of wood: the cross was made of wood
Something prickly: His crown was made of thorns
Something dead: represent the death of Christ
3 things dark in color: 3 days of darkness following his death
Stone: a stone was removed from the grave by the angel
Something alive: to represent the living Savior

Tuesday: Take an Easter lily to a neighbor.

Wednesday: Produce a sweet-smelling fragrance in the home to remember the gift Mary gave to Jesus . . . and ponder what gift we may give to Him.

Thursday: Prepare a Passover meal which includes lamb, Empty tomb rolls, unleavened cookies, and grape juice.

Friday: Discuss the curse of the fig tree and eat Fig Newtons.

Saturday: (not exactly reflective of the Savior's life, but a day we will use for the commercialized Easter . . .) The Easter bunny comes in the morning and later do an Easter egg hunt

Sunday: Discuss the resurrection of the Savior; Do the egg activity with the kids where each egg has a symbol (nails, soap, etc.) and accompanying scripture to represent the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ.

  35. Jayne says:

We love spending the holiday together with extended family. We usually color eggs, have an egg hunt, eat treats and listen to the story of Christ's resurrection.

  36. Monica says:

  39. Kathlynn says:

My favorite past time has always been easter egg hunts. I cant wait for this year because my son just turned one, It's going to be so exciting to see him hunt for eggs!!

  40. keri lackey says:

The anticipation of the Easter egg hunt was the best part of our family Easter. All of us kids would line up like we were getting ready for a track meet, then someone would yell "on your marks, get set, GO"!! Our big back yard would be full of hidden Easter eggs. Now I get to share that same experience with my children at Easter. They love it!!

  41. Cel says:

Instead of putting candy inside of the plastic Easter eggs, we fill each egg with a tiny piece of paper containing clues on where to find the next egg. It's like a mini scavenger hunt. The very last egg has a paper with advice or words of wisdom to live by. It is also accompanied by a special treat, such as a chocolate bar, family picture, craft, or small toy.

  42. Elijah's Mom says:

This will be the first year our son will be old enough to really enjoy Easter. He loves finding things around the house on a daily basis(I think he loses his toys just so he can find them again!) so I'm really looking forward to the egg hunts! But my favorite part of Easter is the food. Any excuse to get together with family and have a good meal!

  43. chauh810 says:

The best thing that I love about Easter is watching the kids get dressed up. Especially with the girls because they love those hats. But spending time with the family means the most to me!!

  44. Laura says:

My favorite memory of Easter growing up was on Easeter morning, there was a scavenger hunt left for me and my bro and sis (by the easter bunny). Each clue would lead us to another small treat, and another clue. And they were cute little sayings like "you wont feel blue if you look by the shoe" It would eventually lead us to the grand treat which were our baskets all stuffed with goodies. Love you mom! lauradebo@yahoo.com

Having family meal with family after a day at church. Eating rabbit and egg shaped chocolate treats. Now I get to start a new tradition with my daughter with the egg hunt. I can't wait!

  46. Renee Martin says:

I love shopping for cute little outfits for the kids – who are almost at the age where they don't enjoy "cute little outfits"! Haha! But I think I may get one more year out them…even if they do roll their eyes and look at me like I'm crazy 🙂

I think our favorite Easter tradition is going to church on Sunday morning, and remembering why we celebrate Easter. It's always a beautiful day with a family BBQ afterwards, and easter goodies too.

I love getting up early on Easter morning before the rest of my family is awake to decorate the dinning room with balloons, streamers, garlands of Easter eggs and a banner that says, "He is risen!" I make a special Easter breakfast and decorate the table with special Easter decorations and off course Easter baskets at everyone's place. It is so fun to see my families expressions and excitment when they come downstairs Easter morning.

By the way, I love your blog. Thanks for all the helpful and fun information. I check it at least once a week.

    Thanks,
    Debbie
