Things To Do With The Kids This Summer: Barnes and Noble Summer Reading Program.

Yipee!!! Today is the official last day of school/work for me and I’m daydreaming of all the fun things I want to do with the kids this summer. As a teacher, I know the importance of reading (I teach Language Arts) daily. I want to make sure that we continue to do that this summer and plan on taking advantage of Barnes & Noble’s Summer Reading Program, Imagination Destination.

The Summer Reading Program will keep your kiddos reading during the summer, and reward them. All the kiddos have to do is read any 8 books during the summer, record them in this reading journal, bring it to your local Barnes & Noble Store, and choose a free book, from their summer reading selection. How cool is that? Free, motivating and fun!

Also Barnes & Noble stores will have storytime during the week, and our local store has a pajamarama, every Friday evening. You bring the family down, kiddos in their pjs and have a good time. Other stores are offering Saturday summer camp, crafts, and more! You can find your closest B&N store here. For additional info head here.

Things to do With the Kids This Summer – Apple Movie Camp

Apple Camp Fun!

Apple Camp Fun!

I have two budding filmmakers at home. My kiddos love taking my camera or iPad and making dozens of movies a day. We love Apple Products and last year my daughter had the opportunity to participate in Apple Camp. What’s Apple Camp? Well let me tell you about this super fun little free camp at your local Apple Store.

At Apple Camp, kids ages 8-12,  learn how to shoot their own footage, create an original song in GarageBand on an iPad, and put it all together in iMovie on a Mac. This free workshop, held at Apple Retail Stores, spans three days and ends with campers debuting their masterpieces at the Apple Camp Film Festival. Space is limited and workshops fill up quickly.

What to Do With The Kids This Summer : Michaels Craft Stores Summer Program – $2 for 2 Hours of Fun!

Summer is so close, I can almost taste it!!!  Some of you may already have kiddos out of school and some of you might have kiddos out of school in the next week or two.  I finish teaching next Wednesday(hooray!!!), and my kids get out of school next Friday. We can’t wait to sleep in and have some fun this summer!

I’m in the middle of planning our summer schedule, and it for sure will include visiting Michaels at least once a week, for their Passport to Imagination Summer program.  This year’s theme is museum road trip, and will make virtual stops at 7 of the country’s most fascinating museums! Kiddos 5 to 12 years old will have the opportunity to make some pretty cool stuff, every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The sessions are two hours long and are only $2. Yes, you can send your kiddos to “craft camp” for $2 a session! You really can’t beat that!
