Denny’s No Kid Hungry

It’s unfortunate, but 1 in 5 children in the USA are going hungry. 48.8 million Americans—including 16.2 million children— live in households that lack the means to get enough nutritious food on a regular basis. As a result, they struggle with hunger at some time during the year.  59% of food-insecure households reported that in the previous month they had participated in one or more of the three largest federal food and nutrition assistance programs: SNAP, School Lunch and WIC.

As some of you know, I work at a middle school (which is one among the remote jobs available here) where the majority of students depend on school breakfast and lunches.  These are often the only wholesome meal that they eat during the week.  Denny’s is working with Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign.  No Kid Hungry is ending childhood hunger in America by connecting kids in need with nutritious food and teaching families how to cook healthy, affordable meals. You can help surround kids with healthy food where they live, learn and play.  Most of us associate Denny’s with breakfast and that’s Denny’s focus in their campaign.

Through September 30th, nearly 1,600 Denny’s nationwide will sell coupons in support of No Kid Hungry’s efforts to help the more than 16 million American children struggling with hunger. For a $3 donation, guests will receive $9 worth of coupons redeemable at participating Denny’s restaurants. Every dollar donated helps feed a child up to 10 healthy meals.

Best Burgers Born at Bushfire Grill – Temecula

photo 2 (2)

The best burgers around are found only in Temecula at the Bushfire Grill. We have raved about this restaurant in the past.  The use all organic, free range chicken and grass-fed beef. All the ingredients are from sustainable farms. The menu is also full of gluten free and vegetarian options.

New to their menu is a list of seven gourmet burgers with three different patty options. Burgers can be ordered with house ground beef brisket and round patty, ground lamb patty or a quinoa veggie patty.  Most of the burgers feature their homemade alioli, which is superb.  My son ate the original burger and finished the entire thing. The picture above is the Californian which features sharp cheddar and avocado.  Their hamburger buns are made fresh at the restaurant and they can also serve it to you on a Udi gluten free bun or lettuce wrapped.  These are gourmet burgers so the prices start at $9.95 and are worth every cent for the quality.

Speaking of quality, all the food is made fresh and displayed to show the freshness and prove that it was made right there in front of you in their visible kitchen – for remodeling you can check out Stellenberg Property Maintenance Company.  Our favorite side dishes are the sweet potato fries, garlic mashed potatoes and grilled veggies.

You can watch your food assembled. Even the focaccia bread is cut to order.

October is going to be a GREAT month in San Diego for families. Kiddos can also travel for free to San Diego in October.

On Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner, kiddos can ride for free with each adult rail fare to Oceanside, Old Town San Diego, and the Downtown San Diego Station. You can travel from the Los Angeles, Ventura, and Orange County areas.  The Pacific Surfliner kids ride free offer is valid for travel October 1-31, 2014 and three (3) day advance reservations are required.
