Disclosure: This is a compensated post with Latina Bloggers Connect, and The Allstate Foundation. However, all opinions are my very own.

Did you know that October is Domestic Violence Aware month? I happen to know one amazing and courageous woman, that I feel blessed enough to call a friend. She suffered in silence for over a decade, and was tormented in her own home. It is a subject that is very near and dear to my heart.  The Allstate Foundation Project has pledged to donate up to 350,000 to the YWCA and its domestic violence survivor support programs. The Purple Purse Project represents a women’s way to escape the cycle of abuse by gaining financial independence.

I know that there are many women in the same situation as my friend. In fact, 1 in 4 women will be the victim of domestic violence in their lifetime. This is a staggering statistic. It means that someone you know has or is, a victim of domestic abuse.  There is something we can all do this October. First we can talk about domestic violence. It is very real, and many women suffer in silence. We can also do something about it. The Allstate Foundation will pass on 1300 Purple Purses filled with domestic violence information. The goal is to have purses passed on between friends, family, and community members. The Allstate Foundation will donate $5 every time a purse is checked in at purplepurse.com . This is where you can come in and make a huge difference. You can virtually check in and pass on a purse by entering the code 0003. Every check in means $5 for this great cause! Pass-the-Purse-Allstate
