After Hours Outings: Getting Out to Play When both Mom and Dad Work

Credit: San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum

I’ve been a working mom basically since my oldest was born. I have to admit that it’s been very hard to take the kiddos out on outings during the week because basically everything closes early. Luckily it’s Spring time and the days are getting longer and we can get out and play with those kiddos after work. Here are a few places that offer after hours fun on certain days.  If you’re working during Spring Break make sure to check these places out!

  1. San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum: On Wednesdays they stay open until 7  pm.
  2. KidSpace Museum: Every First Tuesday of the month, from 4 pm to 8 pm  the museum hosts a Free Family Night. Not only do you have the opportunity to play with the kiddos after hours, you also get in for FREE!
  3. Pennypickles’s Workshop:  (Temecula Children’s Museum)- This fantastic museum hosts a special Friday Night Science Outing on select Fridays. These fun Science Fridays take place betwen 5:30 to 7:30
  4. Kindernights at the San Diego Zoo: This is an  once a month even. t Each month you’ll go on a different animal adventure to learn wonderful things about the creatures you share the Earth with. All sessions include a snack and an animal interaction, but the rest will always be a surprise! Each month features a different theme. Recommended for children 3 to 6. Kindernights take place between 6 pm to 7:30 pm on select Friday nights.
  5. San Diego Zoo Safari Park: Offers extended daytime hours during Spring Break and Summer Season. You can visit the park every day of the week until 7 pm during the Spring Break and Summer Season
  6. Fleet Science Center: This fantastic museum in Balboa Park is open until 7 pm on Fridays.
  7. Orange Great Park: Ride the Carousel or the Great Balloon for FREE (this might be going away very soon, so make sure to take advantage of it!) Open Thursday to Friday until 10 pm
  8. Aquarium of the Pacific Late Nights and Shark Lagoon Nights: The Aquarium offers select late nights during the year. Admission is also discounted.

I will be on the lookout for more after hour activities! Stay tuned and have fun!
