Empowering Tween Girls, Project MC2 #StreamTeam

In the three-episode “Project Mc2,” available now on Netflix, the fledgling teenage spies are smart, stylish and far from social geeks.

I love love sharing about anything that I find uplifting and that other parents/kiddos would join. My daughter has recently fallen in love with Project Mc2 .  What is it you ask? Project Mc2  follows four super smart and science-skilled girls as they are recruited to join the spy organization, NOV8 (“Innovate”), and work together to save the day. Project Mc² shows that Smart is the New Cool™ incorporating S.T.E.A.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) in a fun way and depicting smart girls, that viewers can relate to, throughout the series.

My daughter has really become inspired by the show and when turned into quite the experiment girl.

There is also a new line of dolls connected with the show, designed to empower girls. A reminder to all children that are free to become what ever they want to be.

“The Project Mc² brand was developed in order to inspire girls that it’s cool to be smart, leverage the growing trend of STEM,” the toy company’s CEO Isaac Larian told Mashable.

“We considered a variety of activities and projects that young kids enjoy in order to create an assortment of experiment kits that would pique children’s interest, while infusing real science and meaningful technology and engineering play.”

And to make the dolls even more appealing to kids, each was created to be different from each other, from their physical appearance to personality, and even their fashion sense.

“We wanted the characters to reflect what a real life group of friends would look like,” Larian explained. “Each character is engineered to stand at a different height, has a unique face sculpt and represents a different cultural background.”

I hope the success of this program leads to other shows that inspire my children to greater heights.

Netflix Summer Flix #StreamTeam

All we’ve heard all week is the excitement over the new Minons movie opening. In the spirit of those spriteful Minions, here are some fun films currently streaming on Netflix in July.

How to Train Your Dragon 2

Hiccup and Toothless make a life changing discovery in the adventure sequel.

Dragons: Race to the Edge

Speaking of Hiccup and Toothless, have you checked out this new series, exclusively on Netflix? 13 animated episodes to enjoy. The animation quality is top notch along with the messages presented in each episode.

The Croods

We loved this when we saw it in the theater. A prehistoric family is forced out of the cave home, which is something they rarely did before a big quake occurred. They learn more about the world outside and about themselves too.

The Boxtrolls

Similar to Minons, the Boxtrolls are a cute, quirky bunch. A human boy and his friend fight to save the Boxtrolls from certain doom.

These are just a few of the fun movies playing this month. So after a full day of playing out in the sun, grab some popcorn and ice cream and curl up on the couch with your kiddos for some quality family entertainment.

Get Your Disney Fix on Netflix

Disney Netflix StreamTeam daytrippingmomThe Disney classics never get old and fortunately many can be found today on Netflix.

Fantasia – 1940

There has never been another animated film that can come close in comparison to Fantasia. It is the epitome of animation as an art form. It was never appreciated in it’s own time but has grown to become legendary.

Dumbo – 1941

Did you know that Dumbo was rushed through production to provide some revenue for the Disney Studio after the box office disappointment of Fantasia? It too has become of a favorite for children of all ages.  Heck, this ride also has one of the longest lines in all of Fantasyland at Disneyland, everyday.

Robin Hood – 1973

The familiar tale of Robin Hood, retold with animals and catchy music.  My husband reports he was obsessed with this movie as a child, which was back in the era when you could only catch the film in a theatrical re-release. Oo De Lally, Golly What A Day!

The Rescuers – 1977

Who knew too mice could end up into so many adventures? This fun film was an important transition time for Disney animation as the last of the original animators retired and the next generation came aboard.

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh – 1977

This Pooh film is actually two shorter films that were put together and released as one film. They are wonderful movies that continue to introduce the younger generation to that silly old bear.

We hope to see many more of the Disney animated films make their way to Netflix. Which are some of your favorites?
