Our Bedtime Books #Positivismo

Reading Otros Cuentos in both Spanglish and English

I’ve shared earlier a bit about our bedtime routine and that at times, there hasn’t been much of a routine. Having two kiddos in school has helped us getting in to a routine and also the mandatory getting 20 minutes of reading per day. I like to read stories to my kiddos before bed, but making sure they are getting almost half an hour of reading has meant, we’ve had to add to our collection.

I shared with you last week about Otros Cuentos and their free downloadable books. The kids have loved reading the books and we’ve read every story in both in English and Spanish. It’s allowed us to get 20 minutes in and helps ease us the kiddos into a goodnight sleep.

I love the California Milk Processors initiative that encourages parents and kiddos to help get a great night sleep and allow the little ones to be more alert and  in our home, also in a better mood! I don’t like grumpy kiddos in the morning and I know when they didn’t get enough sleep. In our family 11 hours seems to be the magic number for my kids. Anything less than that and they are grumpy, sleepy and our mornings are not very pleasant. That’s why I’m making sure that we are sticking to our schedule and our bedtime routines.

Our Night Time Traditions

Our night time routines always involve relaxing music,a cup of warm milk,  a bedtime story and prayers. Although the kids don’t always look forward to bed, they always look forward to their  warm milk or leche,  bedtime stories and their prayers.

Earlier this week I received a copy of the bilingual book, Las Olas de La Luna/The Waves of the Moon from el Maestro Del Vaso Medio Lleno. We are striving to be a bilingual family and this book received a welcome reception from the kiddos.

Are you looking for a set of bedtime stories to add to your collection? Head over to otroscuentos.com to not only download your copy of The Waves of the Moon, but also other bilingual titles, including,

Better Sleep with Milk! #Positivismo

With school back in full swing for most of our kids, making sure they get a good night sleep is crucial! I’m going to be honest here, bedtime has always been a struggle in our family and during the summer my kiddos stayed up to almost 11pm or yes occasionally until midnight. I’m not proud of it. Getting them back into a routine has proven very difficult. I try to start bedtime routines around 7pm, however most of the time they don’t fall asleep until 8:30pm.

Having a child who is sleep deprived is not fun. It can affect learning and well it is just plain difficult to deal with a cranky child. Did you know that sending your kiddo to bed with a glass of milk in their tummy can lead to a better night sleep? We are adding this to part of our bedtime routine because who doesn’t want a kiddo sleeping through the night with a full night of restful sleep. I know I want well rested kids that are not cranky and ready to face the day.

Make sure to tune in every night between 7-9 pm PT to Telemundo and Univision to watch the California Milk Board’s commercial, “Ya es hora de ir a la cama”/“It’s Time To Go To Bed.”  It’s a great reminder for parents and kiddos to get that  good night of rest. Don’t forget to check out El Maestro Del Vaso Medio Lleno on Facebook.
